An interactive story about exploring a vast cavern to find out what's stealing the village's sheep. Will you emerge happy, rich, and human, or will you meet with a very different fate? Customize your character, improve your stats, and find 14 possible endings!

Rated mature for some of the possible endings, but it's maybe PG-13. Strong themes of magic and transformation; some violence.

Likely still has bugs. Reports on errors (including "0" showing up without explanation) are appreciated. You might not be able to reach all endings with all possible character builds. Created in the free Twine engine. Features save/load system at certain save points.

The attached image is a slightly outdated map of the story, presented for visual interest. Reminds me of a "Metroid" game map.

Awesome!

Can we get another story like this?

I loved the creative endings!

From being a damsel (wut), having a successful sex-change (wtf?!?), having babies in the woods (what's with the babies?), practicing organic transhumanism with my fellow humans (Can't blame e'm), Deciding that I don't want to have this adventure, becoming possessed by a harness, and much, much more!

Hoping to see more content sometime! (hopefully soon!)

Thanks! The book version on Amazon has another six or so endings.

I would like to do a story called "Island Tail", which currently exists as a non-interactive story in my book "Perspective Flip" and an interactive preview online. But I'm not sure what format it should be in: Twine, Ren'Py, a custom game engine in Unity, or what. It seems like it needs a combat system of some kind. Also, since I want to actually market the thing, it might be best to make a format that has graphics, which means getting art funding.

There's also "The Secret of Blue Dream Temple" kschnee.xepher.net/code/twine/… , a demo that leaves off just as you're entering the temple. That one was designed as a tabletop RPG scenario and I'm not sure it lends itself well to a computer game format because the gameplay involved skill checks and maneuvering, rather than having a big map.

Thanks for responding!

I thoroughly enjoyed your interactive fiction novel, besides some pleasant mind twisting, it was a breeze to play.(Hey, I liked that you added some things that would mess with players! From suddenly becoming male to.... female.... worse the whole village sex change hell on earth for families thing, becoming the damsel herself, and overall the freedom to do what you want), even if you crack up laughing and fracturing your mind in the process.

Still wondering after my little harness situation how many generations it will take, from heroic hero to heroic hero will it take until they find there trusty dragon steed, when it finally crash lands and is "breathes it's last breath" that it reverts to some really unfortunate, vary, vary, unlucky 19 year old adventuring mage that got possessed by a random silver harness he picked up from the ground and how it went quickly downhill from there...... I imagine the fairly decent hearted yet slightly bewildered poor myself probably having to explain a long and complicated story to some hero doesn't have "quite" the time right now because he is fighting a "particularly" important battle (i.e, not the time to be doing this, would make a perfect little reference and/or twist) Also his name is Peter, and he would appreciate not immediately being shoved back in the confines of that thing by some heartless hero. Which he probably does anyway. (Poor myself, was my first ending, thus probably the realistic fate for me).

Regardless I read your latest battle post, and sure, it works, but perhaps you can have it so that you can activate/use certain items on tiles? Perhaps even have a height system, Like you can run up a hill and have more range, and that they need to be on a certain elevation tile to climb up and receive speed deductions. And then being able to go, per say, instead of fighting the opponent using the death beam attack, you can "interact" and hit a notably weak pillar to cause a collapse, like freedom of choice beyond choosing your attack from a list. Also keeping in mind what's on the ground. Swamp tiles make move slow, exa.

Also with elevation we could technically have multiple layers of tiles, per say have above tiles see through/clear and have line of sight effects. Also, like how in interactive novels you can chose to do special options based off knowledge, or unclear facts that you learned (i.e maybe you can have a critical buffs v certain opponents if you know something/chose a now available option though unlocking through exploration).

Not sure if I'm being clear, but if you could think of adding important tiles (intractable beyond impassable, doors, exa), like can shoot fire at pillar for another combat option, and have the environment play in the role of the combat. like you can "interact" and maybe get a prompt explaining it and several options to chose.

I don't know, I'm rambling. Hopefully they were helpful and not time wasting.

Was that one of your first novels? Can I get my hands on other interactive fiction works you made? If you so may please. Man I sound like a fanboy.

You take story commissions lately?

What franchises would you say you know?

I love it! So much, in fact, I added it to the Interactive Fiction Database, along with a review: ifdb.tads.org/viewgame?id=4bkh… -- let me know if anything needs changes. And thanks for making the game in the first place.

Okay! Several uploads later, one of which you apparently already saw, there are fewer typos, and your gender is noted properly in the dragonkin TFs (I think), and you can back out of the idol situation if it doesn't do anything to you. More importantly, I'd been smug about players not realizing there's a back way into the dwarf's office, when really I was looking at a one-way connection in the wrong direction! The back entry didn't exist. Fixed.

Thanks.

" and you can back out of the idol situation if it doesn't do anything to you. "

Does it only effect female characters?

Female, or male if you have the frost pendant.

(Note, I will be deleting some of these comments to remove clutter. You've posted many many individual comments on one submission.)

So do you need magic to get into the foreman's office without it blowing up?
